Google released its first-ever 2015 Beauty Trends Report on October 29, Thursday, which is focused only on hair trends, and the results were very interesting. The most popular hair-care terms searched were braids, colored hair, and men's hair. This was the first time queries about men's hairstyles were more popular than women's hairdos.
Searches for men's hair were 6 percent higher than for women's hair. The most popular topics were "comb over" and "man bun."
Men were also interested in perfecting their man-bun look. Questions asked included ones about how to grow a man bun, and how to tie one.
Last month Brigham Young University's Idaho campus banned the hairdo because it went against the school's Honor Code, according to The Huffington Post. It was defined as "extreme" due to shaved hair on the sides, and the top knot.
Rob McMillen is the head barber at Blind Barber in New York City. He told Google that men are doing more research before they get a haircut so they know exactly what kind of style they want. Google reported that more men are starting to get hairstyle tips from YouTube.
Meanwhile, women are going for a more natural look. Different braid styles are trending including "goddess braids" and "box braids." Google search users who want to be more unique are researching the "short bob box braid" and "goddess braids in a bun."
One of today's most interesting trends is Dads learning how to braid. It is a way fathers and daughters can bond by taking "Dad Braiding 101" classes.
Celebrities have made colored hair a big trend this year, with grey and silver locks being the top hues among men and women, according to Today.
