Social network giant Facebook is expected to launch its news-oriented app Notify within the second week of November.
According to Financial Times, Notify will alert users every time new stories comes up from its partner news and media outlet. The latest move from Facebook is part of its strategy in order to take the lead in the ongoing battle for mobile news delivery.
Notify, which is a standalone app, will partner with media outlets such as CBS, the Washington Post, Vogue, CNN, Mashable, Comedy Central and Billboard magazine.
Facebook's current status as the largest social network site, with 1.44 billion monthly active users, will hold a massive impact in terms of delivering news now that it has entered the mobile news deliver foray.
The push to release Notify was fueled by the mostly positive response from readers and publishers towards Facebook's Instant Articles. Although the Instant Article feature was only released for beta testing, it manages to push more than a thousand articles every day into its massive user base. Facebook also promised publishers that the quick load times of Instant Articles will increase user engagement and readership.
Notify will follow the recent launch of Twitter's Moments. The new feature from Twitter allow its editors to team up with media outlets to mash up reports, tweets and videos in to stories, according to ZDNet.
On the other hand, Google also launched its Accelerated Mobile Pages with tie up to more than 30 publishers. Google's new service promises the same load speed as Facebook's Instant Article, the only difference is that Google's Accelerated Mobile Pages works on the open web unlike Facebook's Instant Article that is only limited to its mobile apps.
