"Edge of Tomorrow" director is in negotiations to helm the upcoming Marvel Comics film "Gambit."
Liman has been reported to be courted by "Gambit" lead actor Channing Tatum to direct the film. After some time, Liman was reported to be nearing a deal to helm the forthcoming superhero film about the Cajun mutant for 20th Century Fox, a source familiar with the situation told The Wrap.
Aside from the action film "Edge of Tomorrow," Liman also directed the 2002 film "The Bourne Identity." He also co-produced Paul Greengrass' 2004 "The Bourne Supremacy" and 2007 "The Bourne Ultimatum." He is set to direct the action sci-fi film "Luna Park" and the crime thriller "Mena," which is set to hit theaters in 2017.
Along with Liman as the film's potential director, Joshua Zetumer, who also wrote the screenplay of Jose Padilha's action sci-fi film "RoboCop," is also on board to pen the screenplay for Marvel's "Gambit." Simon Kinberg is also set to co-produce the film, along with Tatum, Reid Carolin, and Lauren Shuler.
Previously, Lea Seydoux told Cinema Blend at the press junket of Sam Mendes' James Bond film "Spectre" that she had nothing to say about the film for the time being. Liman's potential directorship for Marvel's "Gambit" serves as a major enlightenment to the film's direction at present.
"Gambit" features the origin story of the Cajun mutant Remy LeBeau. At the moment, additional cast members and exact plot details have yet to be announced. Tatum is set to play the Cajun mutant while Seydoux is rumored to play Bella Donna Boudreaux.
Marvel's "Gambit" solo film is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Oct. 7, 2016 while Mendes' "Spectre" is showing in theaters.
