"The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder has accepted the fact that Nina Dobrev will no longer return to The CW series. Although Damon and Elena fans are still heartbroken from the actress' exit, Somerhalder held that the series' plot was not that greatly affected from her departure.

Speaking to Variety, Somerhalder (Damon) admitted that, much like everyone else, he thought that Dobrev's (Elena) exit will shake the show's formula.

"It wasn't a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up. There were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula," he said.

Crediting the directors and the writers, Somerhalder added that fans will not be disappointed in the direction their heading this season 7.

It has long been rumored that Dobrev was thinking of returning to "The Vampire Diaries" after her alleged failed attempt to become a movie star. New reports, however, suggest that she has been shortlisted to be the female lead opposite Zac Efron and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the "Baywatch" movie reboot.

If ever she will be coming back, it was said that it was only for the show's finale episode. Dobrev held that she wanted to give Elena the proper send off she deserves.

Meanwhile, in an interview with TV Insider, Paul Wesley (Stefan) explained that although Dobrev left the series, her character's presence seemed to have never left the show.

Wesley admitted that with Elena gone, they thought that "TVD" will be experiencing a major reboot. He, however, shared that they all talk about her so much in the script that it felt like she is still part of the show.
