Following her heartbreaking loss to Holly Holm on Saturday, Ronda Rousey's value as a fighter has depreciated in the eyes of some UFC fans. She was not only subject to Floyd Mayweather's taunt through a meme posted by 50 Cent, other people too, such as Republican candidate Donald Trump, did not hide their happiness in seeing her defeat and humiliation.
Now, other fighters dismiss Ronda as a "has been" and want to fight the new UFC women's bantamweight champion. One of them is Cris "Cyborg" Justino who initially felt bad that UFC 193 snubbed her in favor of Holm as Ronda's opponent in the title defense.
Justino, the reigning Invicta FC World featherweight champion, believes the reason why Ronda has not fought her is because "she can't take a punch," which Holm "proved." The 30-year-old UFC fighter is now daring Holm, her friend, to a match, reports TMZ.
As the new darling of mixed martial arts, Holm is enjoying her newfound fame, although she acknowledged that she is not yet a household name unlike Ronda.
In honor of Holm's unexpected win over Ronda, Manzano High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is hanging a banner in their gym to recognize her triumph and serve as an inspiration to female athletes. Holm is an alumni of Manzano.
"The whole city of Albuquerque is proud of her," says Manzano High School Athletic Director Matthew Espinoza. He recalls, "She was so tiny back then ... and now she's the talk of the world."
The youngest of three children, Holm is known as The Preacher's Daughter because her father, Roger, is a preacher at the Edgewood Church of Christ in Albuquerque. Prior to that, he preached for 18 years at the Bosque Farms Church of Christ, reports ESPN.
Unlike Ronda whose Ring Magazine cover for January was controversial, there was no question when Ring bestowed on Holm the Female Fighter of the Year award in 2005 and 2006.
