More than a week following its release in the United States, the BlackBerry Priv has finally crossed the Atlantic and arrived in the United Kingdom. Starting Nov. 16, the unlocked version of the BlackBerry Priv is available at Carphone Warehouse.
The unlocked version of the Priv will cost £579 ($880) at Carphone Warehouse, one of the largest retailers in the U.K. The Priv is available on both Carphone Warehouse's physical and online store.
For those who do not want to shell out a hefty price tag for the smartphone, they can sign a contract with Vodafone. They need to pay £59 ($90) upfront and £39 ($60) monthly. The deal includes 6GB worth of data per month. By comparison, the Vodafone deal costs around £12 ($19) more than the one from Carphone Warehouse.
The BlackBerry Priv, which is short for Privacy, is the company's first ever smartphone that runs on the Android platform. Despite running on the Android platform, BlackBerry claims that the Priv still contains proprietary security features that has made BlackBerry famous.
The BlackBerry Priv is a sliding phone that sports the ubiquitous QWERTY physical keyboard. It also has a 5.4-inch dual-curved display.
At the heart of the BlackBerry Priv is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB of RAM, according to Tech Radar. Internal storage option is limited to 32GB which can be expanded up to 2TB via the microSD slot. Powering the device is the 3210mAh battery pack.
Despite its interesting specs, the BlackBerry Priv lacks one security feature that is slowly gaining attention in today's smartphone market, the fingerprint scanner. BlackBerry responded to this claiming that the fingerprint scanner is not as safe as most smartphone manufacturers claim it is, according to Android Headlines.
