Despite its lackluster performance, tech giant Google is not giving up on the social networking platform. The Mountain View-based company announced on Tuesday that it is launching a redesigned version of Google+.
The tech giant claims that the new version of Google+ will focus more on user interests rather than personal profile which is the common theme of social networking giants like Facebook and Twitter.
Google said on its official blog, "Today, we're starting to introduce a fully redesigned Google+ that puts Communities and Collections front and center. Now focused around interests, the new Google+ is much simpler."
According to The Guardian, the new Google+ is betting its success on its two key aspects, which are Collections and Communities.
The Communities feature will allow users with the same interest to band together and create a group that shares a common denominator.
On the other hand, the Collections feature will give Google+ users the ability to group their posts together as long as they are under a specific topic or interest.
Many tech analysts said that Google+ is heading to a new direction with its redesigned feature. That direction tends to favor towards Pinterest and Reddit rather than Facebook, which is the current leader in terms of social networking.
A couple of months ago, Google removed some key features from Google+ and released it as standalone services. These features are Google Hangouts and Google Photos. During that transition, Google said that the move is part of its plan to redirect Google+ towards a new direction which will bring a "more focused" experience to its users.
