Tech giant Google recently announced that it has upgraded its voice search service for the Android and iOS mobile platform. The company added that it made major upgrade to the artificial intelligence technique used to power the search engine's services.
Google Speech Team announced the upgrade on Aug. 24 via its official blog posting, "We are happy to announce that our new acoustic models are now used for voice searches and commands in the Google app (on Android and iOS), and for dictation on Android devices. In addition to requiring much lower computational resources, the new models are more accurate, robust to noise, and faster to response to voice search queries."
According to Fortune, Google upgrade the acoustic model of its Recurrent Neural Network. Google Voice Search is a service similar to the Microsoft Cortana and iOS Siri. These personal digital assistants use a computer technique known as deep learning.
The same voice recognition tool was previously embedded in the Google Now service. It was integrated into Google Search in 2013.
Aside from being able to seek information on the Internet, Google Voice Search is also capable of finding user information on their Gmail, Google+ and Google Calendar accounts.
During the 2013 Google I/O developers conference Google Fellow Amit Singhai promised that future Google searches will be like having a conversation with a computer or device. Singhai added that future Google services will provide information even before the user asks for it.
With the latest upgrade to Google Voice Search, many experts agree that Google lived up to its promise.
