Amidst the predictions that there will be a close race for the top spot between One Direction's "Made In The A.M." and recently-released "Purpose," Justin Bieber's first studio album in over three years grabbed the number one slot after the album sold over 649,000 total copies in its first week.
Out of the total sales, 522,000 units came from pure album sales, with the rest of that total coming from a combination of mix song downloads and streaming figures.
Not very far behind but definitely lagging, the British boy band has sold 459,000 copies of its album, Rolling Stone reported.
With the iconic sale, "Purpose" has become Bieber's sixth consecutive number one album and his best-selling launch ever. The album has also shattered global Spotify record with 205 million streams in its first week, with its new single "Sorry" at no. 1 slot.
However, Bieber is expected to be dethroned by next week as Adele has released her hotly-anticipated album "25" on Nov. 19. The album is forecasted to sell a record breaking 2.5 million copies in its first week, USA Today reported.
Meanwhile, the "Baby" hit maker gave a breathtaking performance of three of his hits at American Music Awards held at Microsoft Theater on Nov. 22, Sunday, in Los Angeles.
Dressed casually in beige-colored over-sized hoodie, the singer serenaded the audience with his medley, including acoustic version of "What Do You Mean," dance-heavy delivery of his EDM collaboration with Skrillex and Diplo, "Where Are Ü Now" followed by a rain-soaked performance of "Sorry."
