The eighth instalment of "Fast & Furious" series will not return until April 2017 but it is reported that the studio is already in the preliminary stages to create several prequels and spin-offs based on different characters.
The revelation came from the actor and producer Vin Diesel who confirmed that story lines for different characters are already penned down.
"We've written out story lines for various characters," Diesel told Variety. "We've been playing with it for a long time."
Although the 48-year-old actor refused to name the characters on whom the spin-offs are likely to be based upon, it is anitciated that Dwayne Johnson will be subject of one of the spin-offs since he had hinted in the past that he did like to see his character, Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs, branch out into independent adventures.
Apart from Johnson's character, other possible candidates for "Fast & Furious" spin-offs are Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw and his brother Owen Shaw (Luke Evans), which the studio will probably be able to bring back if there is a spinoff to be created based on two characters.
Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley has also confirmed the possibility of more spin-offs by saying that talks were taking place about ways to broaden the franchise's reach.
Another "Furious 8" major spoiler indicates that the upcoming movie will be lacking in larger-than-life stunts which otherwise has become the core of "Fast & Furious" movies over the years. So instead of showcasing the gravity-defying cars, the upcoming movie will be more focused on the story.
It was rumored earlier that late Paul Walker's character Brian O'Connor will be brought back in the movie using CGI technology. However, it is now reported that since O'Connor was shown departing from criminal life for family, he will not be returning back to join the gang in any form.
"Paul won't be in it, but he'll be represented in some form or another but whether his image is in it, I can't tell you yet, but he won't be in the film as a performer, as an actor, the way we did it last time," NBC Universal vice-chairman Ron Meyer said.
Another "Furious 8" spoiler suggests that Eva Mendes' character, U.S. Customs Agent Monica Fuentes, will be brought back into the story, Cinema Blend reported.
