"Infinity" is the next single from One Direction's "Made in the A.M." album, catching the English-Irish boy band's fans by surprise.
Liam Payne excitedly tweeted the news, but some fans did not seem that ecstatic about it. Many of Payne's Tweeter followers apparently hoped for a track with a more upbeat flavor, notably "What a Feeling."
One fan even tweeted back a chart showing fans' preference for "What A Feeling" as the next new single.
Fans' sentiments may be hinged on the fact that One Direction members are about to go on their planned hiatus soon. Hence, "Infinity" just may be the band's last music video, Digital Spy insinuated.
Payne and his bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Niall Horan confirmed months ago that they are set to embark on individual projects and have agreed it is for everyone's best interest.
One Direction performed a heartfelt rendition of the song in Radio 1's Live Lounge. "Infinity, " which somewhat brings to mind familiar tunes from the past, is part of the first three tracks off 1D's "Made in the A.M. album. The other two Billboard chart-topping songs are "Drag Me Down" and "Perfect."
"Infinity" is a beautiful ballad with a "soaring, chill-inducing crescendo" and it was described by Tomlinson as an epic banger, something to be proud of, MTV reported.
In any case, One Direction fans are not discounting the possibility of another stirring music video for "Infinity" apart from swoon-worthy live performances by the well-followed band.
Prior to the announcement, there were rumblings of an unreleased 1D song entitled "Hideaway" in the drawing board.
