There is a new rumor claiming that MacBook Air and Pro 2016 release may not feature Intel Skylake chipset as the laptops will be powered by Apple's homegrown A10X processor.
According to Patently Apple, the next generation of MacBook Air and Pro may no longer sport Intel's chipsets when it boasted that the current A9X processor, which is packed in iPad Pro, is a third-generation chip with 64‑bit desktop‑class architecture. This enables the tablet to undertake tasks reserved for PCs and notebooks.
With this announcement, it seems that Apple will try to power its devices with its homegrown chipsets.
The rumor is resonant of Apple's desire to be independent from its partners. In the previous years, Apple is trying to minimize its dependence from suppliers by acquiring companies and take them under its wing to benefit Apple's production of its hit devices.
However, this step could backfire as Intel has made its mark in the market in producing efficient chipsets that many consumers trust when it comes to their choice of PCs and laptops. By dropping Intel chipsets, the new MacBooks could be off the radar of buyers.
Meanwhile, some of the purported features of the MacBook Air 2016 are 13-inch and 15-inch screen displays, OS X El Capitan, Type-C USB port, and an improved battery life. The laptops will most likely be equipped with Force Touch technology. The MacBook Air will be even thinner than last time.
MacBook Pro 2016, on the other hand, is rumored to pack almost the same specs but with more powerful RAM and longer battery life.
However, there is no official confirmation from Apple regarding the release date and features of the said device.
