"Gremlins 3" is still pushing through without repeating its predecessors and it is set to follow the path of Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World," as per "Gremlins" actor Zach Galligan.
Galligan played the lead role of Billy Peltzer in Joe Dantes' 1984 film "Gremlins" and reprised it in the 1990 sequel "Gremlins 2: The New Batch," the first two films of the horror comedy franchise.
In the question and answer panel at a screening of the first "Gremlins" film at the Prince Charles Cinema in London this week, Galligan told fans that Gremlins 3" was not going to be a reboot nor a remake in any way, shape, or form, E! News reported.
Galligan added that he and the crew had been approached with a concept that had actually sounded like an interesting iteration of the film. He added that it was not a remake of the film at all, but was just a "reinvention" of it.
In April, Galligan told Slash Film that he would be one of the producers of "Gremlins 3," along with "Home Alone" and "The Goonies" writer Chris Columbus, who penned the screenplay for "Gremlins" and "Gremlins 2: The New Batch." In his recent interview with the publication, Galligan said that "Gremlins 3" was something along the lines of like "Jurassic World," where it would be 30 years later.
"Gremlins" centered on a boy who inadvertently broke three important rules about his new pet, a Mogwai he named Giozmo, which led to the release of a horde of wicked and mischievous monsters on a small town. On the other hand, "Gremlins 2: The New Batch" followed the return of the Gremlins and they took control over the building of a media mogul.
Aside from Galligan, the first two installments of "Gremlins" film franchise also starred Phoebe Cates, John Glover, Robert Prosky, Robert Picardo, and Christopher Lee, among others.
With the film in its early phase of development, exact details on the film subtitle, plot, characters, cast, and release date are yet to be revealed.
