While the iPhone 8 release is still far off, it seems that some of its rumored features arealready making rounds in the internet.
According to the latest rumors, iPhone 8 is reported to sport an OLED display. The transition will be made in 2018, which is the approximate date of release of iPhone 8. The screens will be from South Korean companies Samsung and LG, according to The Korea Times.
Both companies manufacture OLED displays and currently use them in their respective devices. The companies have contracts with the Cupertino-based company and have been providing screens to the company.
"Samsung Display has recently renewed talks with Apple to supply its small-sized OLED displays for the next iPhones to be released in a few years, which I believe is around 2018," an anonymous industry executive told the publication.
This rumor is supported by the recent report that LG will invest more than 10 trillion won ($8.71 billion) to build a large plant to make panels using organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels, raising its big bet on the ultra-clear display technology, according to Reuters.
Production of OLED screens is expected to commence in 2018. Japan's Nikkei Asian Review reported citing an unnamed source that the investment was made in anticipation of Apple's orders for OLED screens in the future.
Meanwhile, before iPhone 8 is released, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be showed off next year. According to a latest report from research firm TrendForce, the next generation of iPhone will feature 3GB of RAM and waterproof design.
There is no confirmation from Apple yet.
