Sony PlayStation 2 Emulation rumors have been circulating since January 2014 and fans are excited because it has finally become a reality. Sony has confirmed that PS2 games will soon be playable on PS4 with a nice HD quality.
In a statement obtained by Wired, a Sony representative replied to a query about an emulation application being made available for the PS4 saying, "We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time."
This PS2 emulation application will allow old PS2 games to be played on the current Sony game console and with a higher resolution. It must be noted that the PS4 is the only Sony console that is not backwards compatible and that the only way to work around this is to develop this so called emulator.
When the latest "Star Wars: Battlefront" game was released on Nov. 19, classic "Star Wars" PS2 titles such as "Star Wars: Racer Revenge," "Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter," and "Star Wars: Bounty Hunter" were also released as part of a package. This further solidifies that an emulator is already being developed, The Guardian reported.
Sony gained a huge PS2 sales with games as "Final Fantasy," but the PS4 is currently the fastest selling game console in the PlayStation history. There were already 30 million units sold for the past two years.
Sony fans are yet to find out if it is able to read the games on the physical PS2 game disc or does one needs to purchase PS2 games from the PlayStation digital store.
