"Grand Theft Auto: San Andres" has finally arrived on PlayStation 3 after its critically acclaimed launch 11 years ago.
Rockstar Games' action-adventure heist video game was released for PC, PS2 and Xbox when it first hit the gaming scene, eventually selling over 27 million copies in 2011, Kotaku reported.
Shortly after Rockstar made the announcement it ws re-releasing "GTA: San Andres" for Sony PlayStation consoles, it surprised gamers by making the game available for digital download on PS 3 units.
"San Andres" quietly made its appearance at the PlayStation store, with a 2.1GB file downloadable for $14.99.
Movie Pilot writes the re-release replaces the Classic PS2 version with a frame-rate and draw distance nearly identical to its 2014 Games on Demand Xbox 360 version.
Players familiar with Rockstar's seventh title in the "Grand Theft Auto" series will be able to drive a total of 212 vehicles in the game, while choosing from among its 100 available missions.
Despite its re-release, however, "GTA: San Andres" has not been re-mastered to keep up with the current crop of "GTA" titles.
Players who download "San Andres" after having been exposed to the realistic graphics of "GTA V" will realize the 2004 title does not offer HD graphics, 3D capabilities, or even trophy support.
Cinema Blend says the older game will present difficulties on newer systems, particularly with frame rates over 30fps.
However, GTA fans who are looking to play the classic again, if only for its acclaimed soundtrack will find the digital copy on the PlayStation 2 classics section at PSN.
