"Longmire" will reportedly have longer episodes come season 5. Although Netflix only ordered for a 10-episode run in season 4, multiple reports suggest that the streaming site has agreed to extend to have more.
According to Vine Report, Lou Diamond Phillips (Henry Standing Bear) explained that they needed more air time to give the story more depth. With the current time frame, he pointed out that they only had sufficient time to tell the story of Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor). He added that some stories, which focused on the minor characters, had to be edited or worse totally cut out.
Speaking to New York Times, Phillips said that the cast and crew are definitely grateful to Netflix for giving the show another chance. Netflix Original Content Head Cindy Holland also shared that they were beyond moved to see the dedication of everyone behind "Longmire."
"I've never been in a meeting where the producers not only cried themselves but reduced us to tears with their passion," Holland shared.
Netflix has previously agreed to extend the show to roughly an hour- the series only ran for 42 minuts when it was aired on A&E. The producers held that it gave them just enough time to craft the perfect story without sacrificing creativity. Phillips added that the extra time helped viewers understand the characters even more.
In other news, it has also been hinted that season 5 will have a "darker" and "more violent" theme. Given the unrestricted regulation in online streaming, many fans perceived that this is actually possible.
"Longmire" season 5 is set to premiere in 2016.
