During the PlayStation Experience 2015 live event, Sony revealed some interesting games that will be launched in 2016 with the PlayStation Virtual Reality system in mind. The company also showed a demo of the PlayStation VR that did not impress the audience.
One of the most intriguing VR game showcased was "Golem", a game with a character who sees through the eyes of a stone giant and who is able to control his movement. Tech Crunch revealed that other notable titles include" Rez Infinite", "100 Foot Robot Golf", "Psychonauts VR", "Super Hyper Cube", "Wayward Sky", "Headmaster", "Ace Combat 7" and "EVE Valkyrie". The audience was pumped up after witnessing the lineup of games. However, things didn't go as smoothly when the company demonstrated the device in front of the audience.
Sony's Richard Marks unveiled a working prototype of the PlayStation VR to an excited, screaming audience. However, as Venture Beat reports, most fans that saw the demo were totally disappointed.
Fans were expecting to see a huge improvement of the tech that was previously unveiled a year ago. However, when the latest developed product was shown, it appears that the product is far from ready.
Previous demos of VR games were single-player games highlighting the ability to interact inside a virtual 3d space effectively. This time, Sony's tried to be fancier by using a multi-player demo game in a virtual environment. That decision proved to be a mistake huge mistake Marks failed to even control the device properly.
While the demo showed that two people could occupy the same virtual space, the overall presentation showed numerous weaknesses in the system. The users were shown to be having a hard time controlling their virtual hands. The players' movements also looked awkward while they navigated inside the VR world. It would appear that the technology is not ready yet.
Scheduled to be released in spring of 2016, the PlayStation VR is Sony's entry in the virtual reality industry. The technology is expected to balloon into a $30 billion business by 2020. Fans have been looking forward to a product that will bring full immersion into the gaming world.
The Sony's PlayStation VR, which is set to compete with the Oculus Rift, looked like an unfinished product that is being rushed for launch. The race for a convincing VR experience is still open as developers are yet to show a fully immersive, usable prototype.
