Adult Swim has renewed "Rick and Morty" for a third season. The premiere episode, however, would not include any time travel, rather explain what happens next after the season 2 cliffhanger.
Speaking to Den of Geek, co-creator Dan Harmon shared that they have already started pre-production for season 3. He said that fans who were worried that the coming episodes will only focus on Rick's prison storyline can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
"I don't think anybody wants to do a third season that simply spends a whole bunch of episodes dealing with a situation that we created at the end of the second season. I think that's a non-spoiler way of saying things should be okay pretty quickly," he said.
Harmon also shared that they have hired several female writers to help them in the third season. He said that there has always been a "craving for gender balance" in the writers' room. Harmon, however, pointed out that they did not have to compromise any of the story's plot just to satisfy that craving.
In other news, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, "Gravity Falls" creator Alex Hirsch admitted that he and "Rick and Morty" creator Justin Roiland has always thought about doing a crossover. He explained that although there is no concrete plan as of the moment, they are absolutely not ruling it out.
"I can't say whether or not there will be more, but I can say that we like to confuse and amuse people so who the hell knows," he said.
