The American western-themed crime drama "Longmire" season 5 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in September 2016 with more episodes of more than 42 minutes each.
Netflix previously ordered 10 episodes for the fifth installment of the series, the same number it had for season 4, which streamed from Sept. 10 to Oct. 30 this year, according to Master Herald. However, the streaming network decided to extend the season based on the producers' request.
Meanwhile, more reports show that each episode for the fifth installment will be longer than the conventional 42 minutes. Season 5 episode will have 45 minutes airing time. Actor Lou Diamond Philips playing the role of Henry Standing Bear pointed out that the show needed more airing time to give the story more insight.
Philips added that "Longmire's" move to Netflix from season 4 provides it more liberty to tell the story, the way the executive producers want it to. He said that producers were previously restricted to 42 minutes for each episode, which is why a lot of his work went down. With the extra 20 minutes, the showrunners can have an in-depth coverage of the moments and round out the characters to give the show the cinematic experience from one episode to another.
Furthermore, additional time will allow executive producers to construct the best storyline with the required creativity. Viewers will also get a chance to understand characters even more.
Seemingly, the current 42-minute airtime can only allow the development team behind "Longmire" to tell Walt Longmire's (Robert Taylor) story. Exploration of minor characters will give season 5 a better taste.
Executive producers John Convey and Greer Shephard were grateful to Netflix for believing in the show.
