Known for his role as Damon Salvatore in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7, Ian Somerhalder recently talked about his wife Nikki Reed, the Ian Somerhalder Foundation and the comparison between male and female directors.

In a recent interview with Variety, Somerhalder said, "I love female directors. I hate to say it, but women are so much deeper than men."

Reed's husband explained that female directors "come at things from a much more layered, emotional perspective" and they are "much more in tune with the human psyche" as compared to male directors.

While busy playing Damon Salvatore in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7, Somerhalder still manages to take time to work with the Ian Somerhalder Foundation along with his wife. The environment-focused foundation deals with several things including green technology, habitat extinction and no-kill animal shelters.

As a celebrity, Somerhalder believes that it is important to be outspoken about such causes because celebrities can speak to more people than the government. He mentioned Leonardo DiCaprio and Ed Norton as examples of celebrities who have done an incredible amount of work.

According to Somerhalder, sometimes people say the Ian Somerhalder Foundation is really broad when he tries to explain the foundation to them. However, he said the foundation is not broad because it is really compartmentalized.

Meanwhile, a recent "Vampire Diaries" season 7 spoilers indicate that Damon Salvatore's curt farewell is going to come back to bite him. When the show returns, there will be a Damon Civil War flashback and the eldest Salvatore will find himself in almost every scene of the episode, according to Entertainment Weekly.
