Twitter has announced a new upgrade on their social media platform regarding the photo display in the feeds.
According to HNGN, Twitter will now be featuring the entire photo attached to a tweet instead of cropping it. They will also provide the users an ability to upload multiple images in one post.
Twitter also wrote on their blog that they have applied the changes because they want to transition their platform from an "all-text" posting site to "rich media" space. The company explained, "Some of the best moments on Twitter are when you see the world through someone else's eyes."
Twitter handpicked a couple of outstanding photos shared on their platform including Scott Kelly's #YearInSpace posts. They also cited Brian Dickinson's solo summit photo of the Mt. Everest and announced, "...we're making your twitter.com timeline more immersive by uncropping photos, so you can experience and present them as they were meant to be viewed."
Before the upgrade, Twitter's photo posts are immediately cropped. They have not issued an official explanation for this but it is possible that this is a trick to lure users to click and expand the photo post.
Though Twitter has already removed this feature, extremely large photos may still be out of the question. To be safe, Facebook and Instagram-sized photos are acceptable. High-definition photos may still get cropped.
Twitter has already dived into the user experience innovation. They already launched the auto-play feature on Twitter videos. This could just be a move on Twitter's bigger plan to improve their social media dominance.
