Microsoft has decided to allow current OneDrive users keep their 15GB of free cloud storage and 15GB of free Camera Roll extra storage.
Previously, Microsoft decided to stop offering unlimited storage for Office 360 and cut down on free OneDrive storage to 5 GB (from 15 GB), a move that angered so many people that a petition was started asking Microsoft to bring the 15GB offer back.
It appears that Microsoft was listening, as the company said over the weekend that it will keep the free tier at 15GB for pictures, documents and videos. Users can actually get an extra 15GB for your camera roll, which means they get 30GB in total, PC World reported.
Microsoft has decided to give legacy customers their full 15 GB back. The company representatives said that Microsoft does not have a supplementary explanatory blog post or statement, but they did supply the webpage address, whose URL lists it as a preview at the moment.
OneDrive users who are unaware of the deal will not be able to take advantage of it. By selecting the offer, users agree to receive promotional emails from OneDrive. Microsoft noted that users can unsubscribe as well, but it is not clear how to do that.
What Microsoft prompted to get rid of unlimited storage, the company blamed users who were abusing the offer, uploading in excess of 75TB or 14,000 times the average. There are rare cases where people upload entire movie libraries, taking up as much as 75TB.
However, Microsoft said there will be no changes on other paid OneDrive users, according to The Verge. The 100GB and 200GB paid plans are still going away for new users, and will be replaced with 50GB of storage for $1.99 per month in early 2016. If users need more space, they can get 1TB by signing up for Office 365 Personal for $6.99 per month.
