Surging way ahead of its nearest challengers, "Mad Max: Fury Road" has swept away the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards nominations by grabbing nods in 13 slots.
The nominations were announced on Dec. 14, Monday, in which the Warner Bros.' release was nominated for best picture, best actress and actress in an action movie for Charlize Theron and best actor in an action movie for Tom Hardy.
The movie also received nominations for directing, cinematography, production design, editing, costume design, hair and makeup, visual effects and best action Movie and Sci-Fi/Horror Movie.
On the same day, the movie was also named the top film of the year by the Online Film Critics Society apart from winning other awards for best direction, editing for Margaret Sixel and the cinematography for John Seale, Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The current flow of awards and nominations seems to be a good news for George Miller since the Critics' Choice Awards have historically been considered to be a strong predictor of the Academy Awards.
Apart from "Mad Max: Fury Road," other movies that impressed the jury members are "Carol," "The Revenant" and "The Martian" with nine nominations each. "Spotlight" pulled in eight, "The Big Short" scored seven and Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" nabbed six nominations.
Nominees for animated feature are "Anomalisa," "The Good Dinosaur," "Inside Out," "The Peanuts Movie" and "Shaun the Sheep Movie."
With the first time the film and TV awards getting combined this year, "Fargo" led the line-up with nominations for Best TV Movie Or Limited Series, Best Actor and Actress for Patrick Wilson and Kirsten Dunst respectively.
The winners of the 21st Critics' Choice Awards will be announced at a gala broadcast live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on A&E, Lifetime and LMN on Jan. 17. The event will be hosted by comedian T.J. Miller, Los Angeles Times reported.
