MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry accused "Star Wars" of being racist because Darth Vader was "totally a black guy."
Harris-Perry said in her MSNBC show "Melissa Harris-Perry" that she knew why she had feelings, good, bad, and otherwise, about "Star Wars." She added that she could spent an entire day talking about the Darth Vader situation.
"While he was black, he was terrible and bad and awful and used to cut off white men's hands, and didn't, you know, actually claim his son," Harris-Perry pointed out. "But as soon as he claims his son and goes over to the good, he takes off his mask and he is white. Yes, I have many, many feelings about that."
Harris-Perry had been flagged by conservatives for accusing "Star Wars" of racism, according to Media ITE. In addition, it is assumed that the conservatives do not agree with the host, since she apparently had insufficient gratitude on behalf of Jones, who had helped the space sci-fi franchise more that it had helped him.
While Darth Vader's helmet is seen in previous trailers of J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens," it is still vague if the iconic villain will be spotted in the film and its sequels.
"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is set 30 years after the events in the "Return of Jedi." The film casts an ensemble of old and new actors including Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Max von Sydow, Simon Pegg, Oscar Isaac, and Domhnall Gleeson, among others.
Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Dec. 18. Watch the Chinese trailer here:
