Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is not limited to setting for himself technological challenges for 2016. A day after he shared on Facebook of his plan to make a personal artificial intelligence assistant patterned after Jarvis of "Iron Man," he shared on Monday a physical challenge.
That is to run 365 miles or an average of one-mile run a day. He likely forgot that 2016 is a leap year, so there are a total of 366 days for the current year. Or was he planning to rest from running on Feb. 29?
His goal of one mile a day is within the recommendation of health experts that jogging only five or six miles a week is enough, reports Health.com. Those who do so have lower risks for certain cancers, stroke osteoarthritis, high blood pressure and high cholesterol compared to those who jog less or not at all.
Zuckerberg challenged his FB followers to join him in the physical challenge. In line with this personal challenge, he set up a public group, A Year of Running where members could discuss their running adventures. He says he will post his progress periodically on the group.
To set the ball rolling, he used as the group photo a picture of himself running with Chris Daniels and Ime Archibong. Of course, Zuckerberg was in his favorite grey T-shirt while running.
The group's moderator is Alexi Tanguay who asked members to share their thoughts on useful apps to keep track of their daily fitness exercises and to name the exercises that are practical and easy to use.
Timothy Daloiso shared several apps and the top three which are Nike+ Run Vlub, Runkeeper and MapMyRun. Other apps cited by group members include Endomondo, Garmin and Strava.
The group has more than 18,000 members now. The membership is diverse with people from Mexico, Brazil, India, U.S. and the Philippines among those who joined the group.
