Taiwan's Chan sisters continue their quest for their first Grand Slam title at the 2016 Australian Open when they face the tandem of Czech Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
Second seeds Chan Hao-ching and Chan Yung-jan only needed 63 minutes to dismiss the British duo of Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith 6-3 6-4 at Melbourne Park. The Taiwanese sisters saved two of four break points and hit 62 winners to earn a spot in the quarterfinal round of this year's Australian Open.
"Qualified for the Australian Open quarter-finals today with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over a British duo. Must thank the fans in Melbourne, you were really super enthusiastic. Awesome," Hao-ching wrote on her Facebook page, reports the Taipei Times.
"On to the quarter-finals of women's doubles and the round-of-16 in mixed today," Yung-jan added after winning her mixed doubles match with India's Rohan Bopanna.
Hlavackova and Hradecka, seventh seeds in Melbourne, defeated their fourth opponents Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain 6-2 7-6(7).
If the Chan sisters win against the Czechs in the QF round, they will have a chance to face the Chinese team of Xu Yi-Fan and Zhang Saisai or Australia's Anastasia and Arina Rodionova.
The 15th seeded Chinese players Zhang and Xu made easy work of Hsieh Su-Wei of Chinese Taipei and Oksana Kalashnikova of Georgia 6-2 6-4 in the women's doubles category of the tournament.
Meanwhile, top seeds Martina Hingis of Switzerland and Sania Mirza of India take on German Anna-Lena Groenefeld and United States' Coco Vandeweghe in the other half of the quarterfinal bracket.
Hingis and Mirza stormed into the next round after cruising past Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova and Italy's Roberta Vinci 6-1 6-3 in a contest that lasted an hour and 21 minutes.
