"The Vampire Diaries" previously saw Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) being put into a deep slumber.

Following her exit from the show, fans of Dobrev couldn't help but wonder whether or not she will ever return to the hit The CW series.

Just recently, executive producer Julie Plec spoke with TV Line to say that there's indeed a possibility that Dobrev will return to the show, but only in the finale episode.

"There is still a chapter of Elena's story left to be told. I will take Dobrev for whatever she's willing to do to tell that story," she said.

Meanwhile, Plec also said that she has come to terms with the fact that she should focus more on Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley).

After all, the show is really about the two male characters, and not Elena.

"I basically committed to Ian and Paul that when they're ready to be done, I'll be done. They could be ready very soon, or they could really want to stick it out. Right now, that's up to them," she said.

In other news, there are some rumors that Damon was the one responsible for killing Elena in season 6.

Friday night's episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 saw Damon burning Elena's body while he was hallucinating while trapped inside the Phoenix Stone.

However, even though fans were made to believe that Damon was responsible for burning the body of the love of his life, others think that this is impossible.

"I seriously doubt it's as straightforward as all that. Let's not forget that this show prides itself on bringing people back from the dead, so even if it was Elena's body that was being burnt to a crisp, that doesn't mean the characters won't find some magical solution that'll help restore Elena to her usual form," according to Bustle.

Meanwhile, "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will also reveal new information about the other characters on the show, namely, Caroline (Candice Accola-King), Bonnie (Kat Graham), Matt (Zach Roerig), Alaric (Matt Davis), Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and more.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
