The 40-year-old was speaking at the press backstage after winning a British Academy Film Award in the best supporting actress category this weekend for her role in "Steve Jobs," when she shared a story about an interaction she had with a drama teacher who put her down when she was still a teenager.

"When I was only 14, I was told by a drama teacher that I might do OK, if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts," The Hollywood Reporter quoted the actress as saying, who further added that she never listened to such criticisms and ultimately overcame her fears and insecurity.

The third-time BAFTA winner also told young women to keep faith in themselves. Scroll down to find the full speech.

This is not the first time that Winslet has spoken openly about issues related to body image. Earlier she told the TV host of "Bear Grylls" that she and her daughter repeat healthy mantras in front of the mirror by praising their curves.

Winslet, who received the award from fellow actor Idris Elba, looked gorgeous and ageless and she arrived on the red carpet flaunting her toned pins through a high-thigh split in the floor-length number. The daring attire featured a low-cut neckline and cut-out shoulder detailing, leaving the star's décolletage exposed.

The "Titanic" star accessorised her look with sparkly black court shoes, a bright red clutch bag and dazzling diamond drop earrings.

Joining the Hollywood beauty in the glamour squad were Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, Alicia Vikander and Dakota Johnson. While Moore looked like a vision in her elegant monochrome Armani gown and emerald earrings, Blanchett wowed in an intricately embroidered Alexander McQueen gown, with an off-kilter cut, Mirror reported.

Vikander also looked stunning in a black leather gown with silver sequins by Louis Vuitton while Johnson oozed oomph in her red Dior gown and bold lips.
