Sony's extremely popular RX100 series has been dominating the premium compact camera market so far. However, things may change soon as its rival Nikkon has now entered this space with the launch of its latest DL series.

The DL series comprises the three compact fixed-lens cameras, the DL18-50, DL24-500 and DL24-85. The numbers associated with the different cameras in the series point to their equivalent focal length, thereby making it easier for the potential customers to choose the right camera for them, depending on the kind of photography they are into, Tech Spot reported.

All the new cameras in the "DL" series come with a 1-inch, 20-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and are powered by Nikon's Expeed 6A image processor. In addition, the DL18-50, DL24-500 and DL24-85 also feature 3-inch, touch-enabled displays along with tilt functionality as well as Wi-Fi, NFC and a hybrid autofocus system with 20fps burst mode along with continuous autofocus.

All the three models in the DL series comes offers RAW image capture along with 20fps continuous shooting, in addition to 4K video recording at a maximum of 30fps and slow-motion capture at 120fps (1080p) and 240fps (720p). Moreover, the DL18-50, DL24-500 and DL24-85 cameras use the company's patented BridgeSnap system which depends on Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth to expedite wireless transfers.

Of the three new models, the DL18-50 is not only the cheapest but also appears to be the most versatile, as it offers a focal length of 18-50mm, similar to any kit lens of a standard DSLR. The aperture of this particular camera is in range of f/1.8-2.8, 2.8x optical zoom, while the lens comes with Nikon's Nano Crystal Coat that helps to reduce flare as well as ghosting. In addition, it includes total manual control, a tilting touch-enabled Oled display plus 4K video support. While this model does not feature a built-in flash, customers can add one via the hot shoe, NDTV gadgets review pointed out.

Nikon has announced it will ship the DL18-50 model this summer. The DL18-50 comes with a price tag of $849.95; while the DL24-85 will cost $649.95. On the other hand, DL24-500, which comes with a super-zoom facility, will be available for $999.95 when it is shipped this summer.
