Though Xiaomi had dubbed the launch event of its ambitious next-gen smartphone Mi 5 as "Global Launch Event," the device will initially be available only to customers in China and India and later it would be introduced to other markets. Nevertheless, the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 5 at the Mobile World Congress has generated plenty of enthusiasm among tech aficionados, who are keen to know about its specs and features.
Launching the Mi 5 - the world's fifth largest smartphone manufacturer focused almost its entire presentation on the technical aspects of the new device. During the company's first ever press conference in Europe, Xiaomi vice-president Hugo Barra talked about his company's partnership with Qualcomm and said that the Mi 5 will incorporate Snapdragon 820 chipset along with 4GB RAM, IB Times reported.
Xiaomi further claimed that based on benchmark scores, the Mi 5 will be the most powerful smartphone in the world. According to Barra, the Qualcomm 820 chipset would boost the phone's performance by as much as 200 percent than the Snapdragon 810, and will be 50 percent more power efficient.
One key feature of the Xiaomi Mi 5 is its incredibly light weight, it weighs only 129 grams. The phone comes with a 5.15-inch screen rendering a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. Aside from these, Xiaomi Mi 5 also features a 4-axis optical image stabilization, which, according to Xiaomi, will provide notably steadier shooting in specific circumstances than most other phones on the market, Android Police reported.
The 3000mAh battery unit of the device is same as that of Samsung Galaxy S7, but bigger compared to LG's latest G5 smartphone. In addition, the phone features the USB Type C port, which is a potential advantage, because it offers users the opportunity to increase the storage capacity of the device up to 128GB. In fact, even Samsung will possibly not offer this on its recently launched Galaxy S7 in most markets.
Apparently, the Mi 5 has a few downsides too. For instance, the device retains the capacitive navigation keys and comes with a hardware home button similar to Samsung devices. Moreover, though the MIUI is relatively quick, one cannot deny that it's an Android skin that is unlikely to appeal to many potential customers. While many enthusiasts have a preference for the MIUI, it certainly does not offer the Android experience.
