Fans of actress Chen Xiaoyi would have the opportunity to watch her again on television portraying a key role in the new TV drama “Together Whatever” which premiered on March 1.

Aired by Beijing Satellite TV with two episodes per night, the 40-episode show is directed by Teng Wenji, an award-winning director. "Together Whatever" spans six decades of family drama, beginning in the 1930s through the 1990s, reported China Daily.

In megging the new TV drama, Teng stressed that influence of social changes on the Chinese families. He pointed out that more Chinese are becoming indifferent to family ties. “If the drama can remind present-day viewers of the old days and values the elderly cherished, I would have succeeded in my mission,” Teng said.

Among the social changes that have reshaped the Chinese family are unmarried youth living alone in cities and enjoying the single life, and acceptance of same-sex relationships whether in real life or TV dramas.

With China’s two-child policy, change is forthcoming again in Chinese society as the family grows bigger from just three members to four. But it is not just the addition of a second child that would happen as second births mean the need to train more nursing mothers to take care of the newborn and the second-time mother.

Chen is best remembered for her role as a landlord’s concubine in “Wai Lai Mei,” which premiered in 1992.
