The actor was speaking with New York Times for the promotion of his soon-to-be released movie when he initially insisted that he would not speak about his highly publicized marriage breakdown. However, he ended up addressing Garner's statement instead.

"She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with," said the 43-year-old actor on being asked if Garner had made his life a mess by sharing sharing intimate details of their lives. "It's fine. She's allowed to talk about it."

Earlier, the actress refuted rumors that Affleck's affair with their nanny triggered their divorce. However, she also described him as a complicated character that could make her feel "cold" sometimes.

The actress also took a little jab at the "Gone Girl" actor making reference to the giant tattoo of a phoenix he had tattooed on his back after the pair broke up.

"You know what we would say in my home town about that? Bless his heart," the West Virginia native told Vanity Fair. "'A phoenix rising from the ashes.' Am I the ashes in this scenario?"

Affleck and Garner were once popular as one of the Hollywood's most loved couple. The pair started dating in 2004 and got married in June 2005. They have three children.

Affleck and Garner shocked the world when they announced their intention to divorce in June 2015, a day after their 10th anniversary. However, they continue to live together in their Los Angeles home with the actor living in the property's guesthouse.

Meanwhile, the otherwise media-shy actor was spotted in at LAX airport on March 12, Saturday, where he burst into laughter as he made his way out of the airport, stopping to sign autographs and snap photos with fans.
