'Terminator 6' is happening: Arnold Schwarzenegger

"Terminator 6" will be filmed after "Terminator: Genisys" turned out to be a box office blunder as compared to previous hits. The unofficial announcement came from the star of the franchise, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who gave a confident gesture in a recent interview.

In a recent interview with the Australian TV program "Weekend Today" on Nine Network, Schwarzenegger made the announcement without breaking the ice on plot or release date. He told host Richard Wilkins, "I'm looking forward to it, absolutely."

Although the former Governor of California is a formidable source, Paramount has yet to confirm his claim. The chances of "Terminator 6" were narrowed when "Genisys" could only pull $89 million in the US cinemas and $350 million at the international box office. The movie also received worst ratings in the history of the franchise, getting a 26 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Back in January, the studio rescheduled March 2017 plans for "Terminator 6" to replace it with Dwyane Johnson's Baywatch reboot and the "Genisys" sequel was further postponed to 2019. The first two films starred by Linda Hamilton were a huge success, however, 2003's "Rise of the Machines," and last year's itineration - starring "Game of Thrones" actress Emilia Clarke - did not come up to expectations of the fan. 

"Terminator: Salvation," which was released in 2009 only saw a brief computerized appear from Schwarzenegger. The plot of "Genisys" did not fully explain every aspect of the events happening; viewers also did not appreciate Clarke playing action-figure Sarah Connor, while new Kyle Reese also did not fit the description of the character. Final nail of disappointment was drawn John Connor was portrayed as a villain, which was a radical step.

Despite everything, the plans for a sequel were never officially canceled, but Paramount does not seem very eager to roll out the next man vs. machine extravaganza after "Genisys" was bombarded with negative remarks which reflected in its $440 million worldwide gross.

Careful analysis is the next step, and according to Dana Goldberg, who produced the last film, the next breakout is not going to happen without knowing the interest of the audience and doing worldwide research to find what people really loved about the franchise and what not, she told The TheWrap during a conference. She also commented that it is still an "active property."

"Terminator 6" is an absolute for Schwarzenegger and according to the popular game news site, James Cameron, the original director of first two movies will return to the franchise in 2019 to take control of the rights to the property.
