Amazon has begun selling Comcast cable, Internet and phone services which marks the cable corporation's highest-profile online retail partnership. The shopping website has already created a page for the cable corporation's services.
Amazon, one of the biggest online shopping stores, has already begun selling Comcast Corporation's TV, Internet and phone services, TV Predictions reported. The shopping website has already created a page called the Amazon Cable Store.
The newly created Amazon page is offering different types of Comcast products. These products are Internet service, Internet and TV bundles and Triple Play offers. The products also include dedicated customer service for Amazon customers, according to The Wall Street Journal.
About a year ago, the deal came about when Comcast Chief Executive Brian Roberts and the cable division's president, Neil Smit, went to Silicon Valley. The two met with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and talked about ways on how to work together. One of the ideas that they came up was selling Comcast products through the shopping website.
An Amazon spokesperson said in a statement that they heard from their customers that researching, signing-up for and making changes in service plans can take a lot of time and can sometimes be frustrating. The spokesperson added that they made the Cable Store as a way to make cable shopping easier for them.
The Amazon product pages are just like the standard version. Instead of customers checking out their products, they will just set up a time to get one or several of the services installed.
There is no clear explanation why customers would want to purchase Comcast services through Amazon. The online shop does offer different perks like gift cards, an option to purchase a modem and also the dedicated customer service.
The benefit of this partnership for Comcast is its advantage of promoting their services to more customers. Charlie Herrin, Comcast executive VP, said in a statement that Amazon's hub is an "immersive online destination" which promoted their services. The terms of the partnership between Comcast and Amazon have not been disclosed yet.
