The release date of Season 2 of Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) anime series has been significantly delayed, reportedly because of several problems the animators met in the production.

Tetsuro Araki, the director of the anime series, disclosed that production is currently on-going for Season 2 of Attack on Titan, although he also admitted in an exclusive interview published in the April issue of Bessatsu Shonen that the production team are meticulously working on every detail of the project as they don't want to undermine the substance of the original manga series.

Araki in an interview with Bessatsu Shonen:

"It's rare to adapt manga with a storyline that's this impressive, so I will be extra cautious. Whether it's season 1 or season 2, I'll be mentally prepared to face the production challenges. To animate Shingeki no Kyojin is a cultural undertaking, and because I understand that this is work that will have historical value, I absolutely cannot make mistakes.

"I'll continue to treat it as an extensive series that requires much in-depth investigation and design. Season two's production continues on!"

MMA showdown featuring Rogue Titan vs. Armored Titan the cause of delay

According to an insider, one of the reasons why Araki and his team hasn't finished the production of Attack on Titan Season 2 up to this point is due to the complexity presented by the scene involving Eren Yeager in his Rogue Titan form and Reiner Braun in Armored Titan.

One of the story materials to be included in Season 2 is the Clash of the Titans arc, in which Braun and his pal Bertolt Hoover will be revealed as the Armored and Colossal Titan, respectively. This arc will showcase arguably the most intense scene in the series, with the Rogue Titan going head-to-head with the Armored titan.

The Rogue vs. Armored titan battle is presenting problems for the production team as it requires a far different approach from what they did on the Rogue vs. Female titan slugfest in Season 1. While the fight between Eren and Annie features striking game, the Rogue-Armored scene has a lot to do with ground-and-pound war that highlights grappling and submission technique.

Araki already tapped the help of an MMA expert to give him a proper outlook of the said scene.
