Besides Song Joong-ki and Kang Ma-yeon, there’s another pair in “Descendants of the Sun” whom Korean drama fans are starting to notice too.

That’s actor Jin Goo and actress Kim Ji-won, who play the roles of Sergeant 1st Class Seo Dae Yong of the Special Warfare Command Unit and surgeon Yoon Myung Ju from the same unit, respectively. The pair went for a drive on Friday wearing their military uniform while filming for the show, reported KPop Herald.

Screen romance, which grow sometimes into real-life romance, is the reason behind the enviable viewer rating of “Descendants of the Sun” which hit 33.9 percent in Seoul for its Episode 9 where the romance of the main couple Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo was the focus.

Across South Korea, that episode enjoyed a 30.4 percent viewership, breaking new TV records in the country. The two Songs have also been hit by dating rumors, but the actress, through her agency, quashed the speculations. Her agency clarified on Monday that she considered Song Joong-ki is only a “good colleague.”

Whether the two pairs’ romance are only on screen or not, many fans apparently do not mind because the 16-episode show’s ratings keep on climbing. Because of the show’s big number of followers in China’s video streaming site iQiyi, the site’s paid members went up by 50 percent in the past three months to 16 million people, reported Yonhap.

“Descendants of the Sun” premiered initially on iQiyi and KBS 2TV simultaneously and shown every Wednesday and Thursday. Because of its popularity, the drama, which alarmed China’s Ministry of Justice, is now seen in 19 countries, available in 33 languages.

Now, it is not just subtitles that are being added, but even different instrumental versions of the drama’s songs are being uploaded on YouTube.
