Top contender Borussia Dortmund (20-3-4, 64 points) is set to take on the challenge of lowly club SV Werder Bremen (7-13-7, 28 points) at their home field of Signal Iduna Park on April 2nd, Saturday as the 2015-2016 Bundesliga season slowly winds down to a close.

With seven games left in the two team's current domestic top flight campaign, both squads have two different goals going into the end of the season.

Dortmund is looking to challenge the three-season reign of defending champions Bayern Munich, who is ahead by five points in the league table as of the moment, while Werder Bremen seeks to avoid relegation to 2. Bundesliga and the relegation playoffs as well.

Die Werderaner is only a point above the bottom three relegation zone, which makes them precariously close to being demoted to the domestic second division competitions.

The Borussians are coming off a dominating 3-1 victory over reeling squad FC Augsburg on March 20th at the SGL Arena, as per BBC Sport.

The Fuggerstädter actually drew first blood in the match with a goal from Icelandic forward Alfred Finnbogason at the 16th minute of the match which BVB was not able to respond to quickly.

It took Armenian winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan until the stroke of halftime to score a goal and equalize the game for Thomas Tuchel's side on the road.

Die Schwarzgelben took a different approach in the second half as they started to pour on the goals, with strikes from midfielder Gonzalo Castro and forward Adrian Ramos at the 69th and 75th minutes respectively, to complete BVB's three-goal haul.

Meanwhile, Bremen settled for 1-1 tie with middling squad Mainz 05 at their home stadium of Weserstadion on March 19th, as reported by ESPN.

Die Nullfünfer team captain Julian Baumgartlinger opened the scoring at the 38th minute, but Die Grün-Weissen was able to equalize immediately right at the stroke of halftime courtesy of a successful penalty kick by veteran Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro.

The predicted result is a 3-1 victory for Borussia Dortmund.
