According to New York Daily News, the actor walked into the store around afternoon over the weekend. While having a film crew in the vicinity, Cumberbatch managed to catch a few minutes to stroll through the aisles.

"He said he came to specifically to see us since it would be ridiculous not to visit a comic book store because he was filming nearby," JHU Comic Bookstore manager Rene Rosa told the publication.

The "Sherlock" actor wandered around in the store for five minutes before leaving. He posed for photographs with shoppers and took pictures with the store's merchandise which portrayed his character "Dr. Strange."

Rosa told the publication there were a few people in the store at the time who were screaming. However, the actor kept his calm and continued to browse through the comics. "I don't usually get starstruck, but it was so surreal to have the guy playing Dr. Strange in the store," Rosa said of the sudden encounter.

Meanwhile, the Marvel comic based film will see Cumberbatch teaming up with Chiwetel Ejiofor, who was his co-star from "12 Years A Slave." The two actors were seen sprinting around the set with actress Tilda Swinton alongside them, Daily Mail reported.

Cumberbatch plays the part of a neurosurgeon who has turned to sorcery as Dr. Stephen Strange for the film. The actor was seen decked in a red cloak with the " Eye of Agamotto" amulet around his neck. In the storyline, the amulet is said to allow the wearer to manipulate time.

Furthermore, actor Mads Mikkelsen, 50, was also spotted by onlookers in Lower Manhattan, the publication reported. The actor who was made-up sported heavy eye make-up with a graying ponytail. Mikkelsen portrays the character of another sorcery who has broken away and begun a new sect.
