The Los Angeles Rams could select a quarterback in the upcoming draft, and rumors are buzzing that the newly-relocated team could pick either California's Jared Goff or Memphis' Paxton Lynch.
The Rams are in need of addition to their offense, particularly at the quarterback position, which they hope to fill in come draft night in Chicago.
Goff and Lynch, two of the QB prospects in this year's draft class, have been linked to the Rams, but there is uncertainty that the two youngsters could be long gone before Los Angeles get to pick their 15th overall selection on draft night.
Goff, according to ESPN and Scouts Inc.'s Steve Muench, which was reported by ESPN writer Nick Wagoner, would be a strong fit for the Rams as the University of California product's skills would "make a lot of sense" for the team's offense.
"For the Rams, Muench believes Cal quarterback Jared Goff would be a strong fit on the draft's first day," Wagoner wrote. "Muench pointed to Goff's size, accuracy, mobility and quick release as reasons he would make a lot of sense for the Rams if he falls to No. 15 in the first round."
Goff is touted as a second overall pick players and the latest mock draft has the 21-year-old getting picked by the Cleveland Browns. But if he remains available until the 15th selection, which is highly unlikely considering the potential he has, the Rams may have to look into an alternative. Enter Lynch.
Bucky Brooks, NFL Media analyst, believes Lynch has the potential to be a "franchise quarterback," which makes the Rams as the "ideal environment" for the University of Memphis product.
Brooks noted that the Rams could offer Lynch to play alongside a pair of talented youngsters in Todd Gurley and Tavon Austin, and for coach Jeff Fisher, who seems pleased to have an athletic quarterback.
"Fisher enjoyed success with Steve McNair and Vince Young at the helm in Tennessee; he could take advantage of Lynch's running skills and mobility as a complement to the Rams' hard-hitting rushing attack," Brooks wrote.
"In addition, he would give the Rams a young, dynamic quarterback to build around for the foreseeable future."
The Rams can only hope that their quarterback prospects would still be available for picking at the 15th overall selection. Unless the Rams convince the Tennessee Titans to trade their No. 1 pick, Los Angeles have a slim chance to land Goff, which makes it realistic for the team to opt for Lynch if they do intend to choose a quarterback.
