The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge on T-Mobile, including the LG V10, are finally getting the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. Report said that the software update, available over the air or OTA, is now live, finally ending nearly six months of wait. Canada rollout of the latest Marshmallow build is expected to commence this week.

Weighing 1.3GB, the Android update packs notable changes to the default Marshmallow app loadout though according to Android Police Samsung has decided not to bundle the Facebook-owned social media applications - Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp - that were part of the previous version. Also included is the new emoji package.

Encryption too will deploy with Android 6.0.1, which appears true for all Samsung flagships that will chew in the update.

Outside of the Samsung circle and specifically for LG V10 users, the jump to the latest Marshmallow build will finally open the door for the native Android features that many devices have already absorbed. Listed by 9to5Google as fresh add-ons are the vertical scrolling app drawer, native support for biometrics (fingerprint sensor) and Android Pay and optimal support for USB Type-C connection.

For the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the T-Mobile software bump to Android Marshmallow is nearly complete as Sprint and Verizon have earlier rolled out the same OS update. AT&T should follow soon to complete the U.S. service provider cycle to the latest Android build but there is no indication at the moment when exactly it will happen.

Most likely, Canadian users of both the S6 and S6 Edge are getting the updated Marshmallow first as 9to5Google had gathered that for Telus subscribers the fun begins April 14 for the S6 Edge then the regular S6 will follow on the 18th. Earlier, Eastlink, SaskTel and Videotron customers on the 2015 Samsung flagships got hold of Android 6.0.1 and Bell users are expected to get their share real soon.

As for those in the United States, since Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is officially live it will only take a day or two for the OS update prompt to pop out so users can initiate the process. For the impatient, however, the OTA update can be manually triggered by heading to Settings, en route to About Device/Phone then tap the Software Update.

Before starting, experts always advise the back up of files and personal settings first and updating on full battery charge for the whole process to run smoothly.
