In 2014, Javier Bardem was also rumored to be cast in the "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" days after Penelope Cruz was named the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire magazine.

"Horrible Bosses 2" actor Christoph Waltz was also rumored to play the role of a villainous sea captain who will go against Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" but producer Jerry Bruckheimer is said to have personally chosen Bardem, The Wrap has learned.

The villain role to be played by Bardem is a ghost captain who blames Depp's character for his brother's death and prepares for revenge by looking for a supernatural object, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Along with Stephen Graham and Ian McShane, Geoffrey Rush will reprise his role as Barbossa while Orlando Bloom and Keith Richards are said to appear with cameo roles.

Helmed by "Kon-Tiki" directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" will be shot in Australia starting in February and is set to hit theaters in July 2017.

Bardem's wife appeared in the fourth installment of the film franchise titled "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" as Angelica, a former love interest of Depp's character.
