Liverpool is at the eighth spot of the current league table, two points behind West Ham United and the final Europa League berth while also being nine points adrift of Manchester City and Arsenal, who are tied on points and currently in possession of the third and fourth Champions League spots for next season.

Jürgen Klopp and his men still have six games left in the season and they could still make a run for either of the two qualifying berths if they could pull off a significant winning streak from here on.

The Reds defeated last season's Football League Championship winners AFC Bournemouth, 2-1, at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, as reported by SkySports.

Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino netted the opening goal at the 41st minute while striker Daniel Sturridge doubled the lead during the first half injury time to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage at the interval.

The Cherries tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but they came up short of time as they only had one goal to respond, a stoppage time consolation goal from Norwegian midfielder Joshua King.

Defender Steve Cook had a chance for the equalizer late in injury time with a header, but it was saved by goalkeeper Danny Ward to seal the win for the Reds.

Meanwhile, Everton settled for a 1-1 stalemate with Southampton at their home field of Goodison Park last Saturday, as per Goal.

After a goalless first half, Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori opened the scoring at the 68th before Southampton winger Sadio Mane leveled the count at the 76th. The two teams went scoreless after that as they held on for a share of a point in the overall standings.

The predicted result is a 2-1 decision for Liverpool.
