The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) has ordered Jiang Yilei, also known as Papi Jiang, to take down her online videos over complaints of frequent use of foul language.

According to People's Daily, the SAPPRFT has received several public complaints against Jiang's use of "vulgar" language in most of her videos, which were also examined by experts.

The SAPPRFT, however, has allowed the 29-year-old Internet celebrity to re-upload her videos on the condition that she modifies the content to suit current standards.

China University of Political Science and Law media expert Zhu Wei said in an interview with the Global Times that he supports the film watchdog's order, stating that "it will send a signal that China is strengthening its efforts against vulgar content."

Zhu also said that online videos and other media content should be regulated as they are prone to violating "society's moral values."

Jiang, one of China's most popular Internet celebrities today, rose to fame with her comical videos that mock trivial day-to-day situations. She has more than 11 million followers on Weibo, and her videos have been played about 290 million times on different local platforms such as Youku, Tencent and Bilibili. She also appears on YouTube.

Jiang's most popular video titled "People who were disgusting when they were in a relationship" has been watched 20 million times.

The Global Times reported that the Internet celebrity's videos have received an average of 7 million hits each.

Jiang's online fame has also given her 12 million yuan (about $1.8 million) in funding from venture capitalists, told the Sixth Tone.

Advertising space for Jiang's videos will be auctioned within the month. A business partner named Yang Ming confirmed that the Internet celebrity will continue making videos according to "socialist core values," the Sixth Tone added.

Jiang is a graduate of the Central Academy of Drama.
