Amazon made a big impression in 2015 when it unveiled a $50 Fire tablet that was considerably decent for the price. Now, the company has released a mid-range variant for customers who want some more space, but are not still interested in paying for the expensive Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10, going at $150 and $230 respectively.

The previous $50 Fire tablet had 8GB of storage capacity, but the current $70 Fire tablet allows a user to expand the storage to 16GB, according to Amazon official website. The manufacturer is as well unveiling a few new color variants for the Fire tablets, including blue, magenta, and tangerine.

Besides the Fire tablet upgrades, Amazon will also offer the Fire Kids Edition with 16GB of internal memory for $120, Tech Crunch reported. The device is a bit more expensive since a customer does not only pay for a tablet, but also receives a kid-proof case and a 2-year warrant plan that covers him or her when a kid breaks it. The 8GB variant will still go for $100.

The latest mid-tier Fire tablets will continue to offer a 7-inch IPS display clocked at 171 ppi and screen resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels. The smartphone will run on 1.3GHz quad-core processor, ship with front and rear cameras, and have a microSD slot to expand the storage to 128GB. The tablets will as well run on an updated Fire OS that offers features such as Blue Shade for improved nighttime reading that will not leave a user feeling wired.

Other standard features found on the tablets include X-Ray, Amazon FreeTime for children, and more including access to the company's content library of books, songs, apps, videos, and games. The most important thing is that one gets more storage capacity for a few more dollars.

It is worthwhile to spare the extra $20 since apps, games, and downloaded content like Amazon Video's offline movies can easily take up space on a device. As a result, the 8GB variant will start feeling constrained.
