OnePlus' next big project is going to be the much-awaited OnePlus 3, and is going to be launched in the second quarter of this year. Many critics are eying the company for this device, waiting to see if it will fulfill the "flagship killer" title, a label that the OnePlus 2 failed to attain.

OnePlus had boldly announced on its website that its OnePLus 2 device would become a "flagship killer," but analysts greatly deviated from the claim after the launch of the device. Now, OnePlus fans are hoping that the company will step up its game this year with the launch of OnePLus 2's successor.

According to information posted on Antutu benchmark, OnePLus 3 will come with impressive specs that are more enhanced compared to those of OnePlus 2. The new model is expected to pack a Snapdragon 820 processor paired off with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage, which will be expandable via microSD.

Rumors, though, point out that there is a possibility that OnePlus might go even higher to install 6GB of RAM, Geek Snack has learned. Back in 2015, the company's OnePlus 2 was available in two different configurations, one with 3GB of RAM and the other with 4GB of RAM. This could mean the same for OnePlus 3, with the high-end model featuring bigger storage options.

It is also said that the device will carry a 16 Megapixel rear camera and an 8 Megapixel front one. The primary camera will come with auxiliary features like optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, and a dual-LED flash.

Currently, OnePlus 2 packs a 13 Megapixel primary camera, which indicates that the company is significantly improving the camera department. Nevertheless, it will require critics to wait until launch to test its quality.

Other expected specs are a 5.5-inch AMOLED or OLED QuadHD screen, a fingerprint sensor, water resistance, a metal chassis with a removable 3300mAh battery, and an Android Marshmallow operating system layered on OnePlus' Oxygen OS. Critics believe that with these specs, OnePlus 3 could end up living to its "Flagship killer" title.

However, compared to the flagship giants of 2016 like the Samsung Galaxy S7, OnePlus 3 faces competition and will have to impress fans if it is to become a real flagship killer.
