Ridley was initially rumored for the role. She has also confirmed in her previous interviews that she was already approached to star in the reboot. However, the studious have apparently changed their minds.

Ridley's fans are disapointed with the change of actress and they expressed their dissatisfaction on Twitter. They shared their doubts that Vikander can pull off Lara Croft compared to Ridley.

The “Tomb Raider” reboot is co-produced by MGM and Warner Bros. Geneva Robertson-Dworet ("Transformers 5") is writing the script with Roar Uthaug ("Magic Silver") as director.

Uthaug told IGN that the movie is based on the 2013 "Tomb Raider" game. It is an origin story about a young and inexperienced gun-toting Croft, who heads out for her first survival adventure.

In the same interview, Uthaug also revealed his plans on how he will present the character on-screen. The director said he wants to make Lara Croft relatable to the viewers. Uthaug added that he wants to make the character "feel like a real human being."

Uthaug also expressed his excitement to work on the "Tomb Raider" reboot. He admitted that he is a strong supporter of female lead characters in movies, so he thought it would be a great experience to work on the film.

Other casting updates for "The Tomb Raider" reboot have yet to be revealed. Regardless of other people's disapointment over Vikander's casting, she is still a more experienced actress than Ridley. She has portrayed different characters in several movies and has acted opposite famous Hollywood stars.

Vikander has worked with Henry Cavill ("Man of Steel") in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." She also starred with Benedict Cumberbatch ("Doctor Strange") in "The Fifth Estate." Vikander is also an Academy Award winner. She won an Oscars for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "The Danish Girl."

Ridley, on the other hand, only rose to fame after she portrayed Rey in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Prior to that she only had minor roles in British films.
