Snapchat has just confirmed that their users collectively watch around 10 billion videos per day on the app alone; that's two billion more than what their main competitor gets every day.

Facebook (NASDAQ: FB), who is aggressively approaching the mobile video industry, has also reported that they got eight billion daily views in November 2015. That makes Snapchat's recent milestone more impressive than the social network giant's.

When Snapchat first started, people used to share photos only to other users. Now, the app supports both videos and images to be shared as "Stories" for other viewers and friends.

One of the defining features of Snapchat was that the photos and videos shared to friends are immediately deleted once it was viewed, leaving no evidence behind. Similarly, Snapchat users can post them as Stories for a wider range of audiences and it will last for 24 hours.

Snapchat has recently hit 8 billion views in February. The company confirmed on Thursday that they are seeing 10 billion views per day, according to Bloomberg

The company has shared the good news with their investors in order to let them know that the app is doing quite well. Snapchat has also reported that they are now reaching up to eight billion daily active users.

Part of the reason for the sudden increase in users and video views per day is that a third of their users post most of their content through Stories. The fact that it disappears after 24 hours makes the feat all the more impressive considering that they might get more views if the content stayed online for a longer period of time.

The new figures in Snapchat's views per day show a 150 percent increase in the app's video consumption in just a year, which is impressive considering that they started from sharing disappearing selfies. Facebook is even trying to get on the video action by introducing their Facebook Live feature using the mobile app.

To garner more views and attention towards the app, Snapchat even introduced a political show regarding the upcoming election in the United States, according to Fortune. They also have the new "Discover" feature that allows popular publishers and websites to release their own content for other users to find.

Snapchat's Stories feature is also one of its biggest strength. It has garnered the attention from millennials, celebrities and other public figures as well.

The Snapchat app has been around for just a couple of years compared to other social networking and video sharing apps. Snapchat was still able to raise up to $16 billion in funding, according to Android Headlines.

Another statistic that has been shared by Snapchat is that more than 100 million users spend up to 30 minutes on the app per day. That means that the app truly offers value for its users and it could be a reason why their user base keeps on increasing slowly but surely.
