After celebrating a fantastic run and airing the finale in September 2013, fans of the anime series "Attack on Titan" have been avidly waiting for a second season outing. Producers previously hinted that "Attack on Titan" Season 2 will be revealed in 2016, and it seems that they have kept their promise.

Wit Studios just recently revealed its 2016 lineup, and it includes the highly-anticipated "Attack on Titan" Season 2. According to MNRDaily, Twitter user Shonen_lord uploaded a screenshot of the list on April 23, Sunday. It was not, however, indicated how many episodes will be aired. In addition, another anime series, "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress," will also debut with 12 episodes.

Although no other detail about the series was revealed, it was suggested that the storyline of "Attack of Titan" Season 2 will be based on the manga that was published sometime between the anime's hiatus. It will focus on the political situation in X, and a conspiracy that connects the government to the creation of the titans will be unveiled. The characters will continue to fight for their survival, and the battle against the titans will go beyond the walled cities as characters race towards the countryside.

However, contradicting news hinted that the list may not be followed as the production has just started and there's no way that "Attack on Titan" Season 2 will be released this year. An unnamed source also revealed that before a second season of the anime series can enter into production, the manga must have completed at least four story arcs. This arrangement was reportedly agreed upon by manga author Hajime Isayama and anime director Tetsuro Araki. So far, the manga only has two story arcs. Aside from the abovementioned arc, the other story centers on overthrowing the incumbent Wall Rose regime.

Meanwhile, "Attack on Titan" has become one of the most successful franchises in anime history. Ever since it came out in 2013, it has secured a loyal cult following that stormed theatres when the live-action adaptation premiered in July 2015. "Attack on Titan" Part 1 starred Haruma Miura as Eren Yeager, Kiko Mizuhara as Mikasa Ackerman and Kanata Hongo as Armin.

If fans of the anime were to follow the developments in the manga series, one can say that the upcoming "Attack on Titan" Season 2 will feature the franchise's most epic story arc ever.
