The nominees for the 2016 CMT Music Awards have been released on May 9, Monday. The first round of nominations was announced by Thomas Rhett when he appeared on NBC's Today.
Three of the most popular country singers namely Carrie Underwood, Cam and Chris Stapleton are leading the race by securing three nominations each in a 3-way tie. Moreover, all three singers are competing in the video of the year category, Access Hollywood reported.
The CMT Music Awards is an event for country music where fans vote for their favorite music videos and television performances. The award ceremony is held annually in Nashville, Tennessee. Fans worldwide can also watch the live broadcast through streaming.
According to the CMT website, fans started casting their votes on Monday and this will run until June 6. Prior to the end of the voting period, it was revealed that a new award category is going to be announced on June 1.
